Neck pain and stiff neck

Neck pain causes a lot of people discomfort.  Aching muscles, soreness across the shoulders and on occasions referred pain into the arm.

Neck pain can be caused for a variety of reasons from simple postural compensations to more complicated mechanical issues.  If neck pain is causing you discomfort don’t leave it without getting checked out if the pain last more than a few days.  Most cases of neck pain can be relieved with the right treatment and self-care.

If you are suffering from neck pain here are a few tips to help you relieve the pain:

  1.  Be aware of using phones, tablets and pc’s for long periods where you are looking down.  Instead hold your gadgets higher so you flex your neck less and get a laptop stand if you are going to be working on it for long periods.
  2. Make sure your pillow supports your neck when you sleep.  Your pillow should keep your head in the neutral position as you sleep. Be aware of feather pillows that don’t provide firm support for your neck.
  3. If you work at a computer for long periods make sure your ergonomics are set up correctly (yes we can give you advice on that too)  Your screen should be eye height and your chair should support you with the ability to make adjustments to the back and the seat.

There are many causes of neck pain so please, if you are suffering get yourself a proper assessment, get a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.  Don’t suffer with neck pain, instead get yourself seen by one of our experts.
