When to seek advice for an injury

When do you need treatment?

It can be hard to know exactly when you should visit a professional to get an injury looked at.  It is difficult because every type of injury is different but there are a few key things you can use to guide your decision.

  1. Trauma – if you have had a trauma E.g. fallen heavily, been injured in a contact sport or head injury then you should get yourself checked out as a priority. If in doubt, go to A&E and get all the necessary checks done.
  2. Pain – Pain is an important indicator of injury. Most pain is short lived and gets better in a few hours/days.  Pain however that is unrelenting and/or continues to worsen is pain that you need to get investigated by a professional.
  3. Other symptoms – Sometimes pain is accompanied with other symptoms which accompany that pain. Time to get yourself looked at.
