Pilates – Consultations
What to expect from your first Pilates session:
What to bring?
Any equipment needed will be provided by your Pilates instructor, however some people like to bring their own mat. It is also advisable to bring a bottle of water with you to ensure you keep hydrated,
What to wear?
Your clothes should be loose enough to allow you to move freely and stretch fully, but not too baggy so as to get in the way. Your instructor needs to be able to see the alignment of your body and how your muscles are engaging. Pilates is performed barefoot so don’t worry about wearing shoes. Please refrain from wearing too much jewellery or dangling accessories as these may get damaged or may damage you!
What will happen during the first visit?
Initially your instructor will conduct a postural assessment to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your body. Your instructor will then put together a series of exercises for you which will best suit your body and will aim to correct any dysfunctions found. Together you will work through the principles of Pilates to ensure you have a sound grip of the basics and then you will be given some homework.
What happens in subsequent sessions?
You and your instructor will develop your movements so they become more advanced as you become stronger. As your posture changes and any dysfunctions ease, the exercises will also change to accommodate your new needs.
